A Monthly Favorites Moment – June 2014

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel a twinge of panic when you realize that the year is basically half-way over? I mean, it feels like it was just Christmas Eve the other day and now it’s almost July. Which means it’s not only almost time for our family trip to Disney World (yay!), but also heading back to college (boo! Well, sort of. I’ll be excited to see my friends again, but tests and assignments will receive no welcome-back party from me).

Anyways, here are some things that I have been loving this month!

As far as beauty products are concerned, I tend to be drawn toward lip products and nail polish. With that, it’s no surprise that those two things make up the bulk of my beauty favorites this month.

This beautiful specimen of a lipstick is the Rimmel London Moisture Renew lipstick in #560 “As You Want Victoria.” If my memory serves me right, I think this specific shade came out as part of a collection some time during the fall, so I’ve had my eye on it for more than a few months. I could only find it at my local Ulta, and (knowing that these are under $3 at Walmart) I was kind of hesitant to purchase it because was around $7, which I thought was a little pricey. But, as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait – I headed out to Ulta at the beginning of the month and found it on clearance for $1.79. Score! This is a beautiful fuchsia/berry lipstick (basically my weakness shade – I own a million similar but still end up finding a way to justify another), and the formula is absolutely fantastic. It’s moisturizing, just as the name states. It goes on very smooth and creamy, and it wears for about five hours before fading, but since the color is so bright and rich, it leaves a lovely stain behind on the lips that is very easy to remove at the end of the day. I always appreciate a bright lipstick that leaves a wearable stain behind because I don’t really like the harsh contrast between having a full lip color on to having bare lips after only a few hours (especially if you are unable to reapply throughout the day). I would love to get a few more shades, but I’m not sure if Rimmel is discontinuing the line seeing as they were on mega clearance. I hope not, these really are great.

My other favorite lip product this month is the Nivea lip butter in “Raspberry Rose Kiss.” I picked this up on a whim when I went to Ulta, and I’m glad I did. First of all, this stuff smells freaking delicious. It smells like some kind of raspberry candy that I can’t quite put my nose on, but I love it! It’s not very overwhelming either, if you don’t normally like scented lip products. The lip butter itself comes in a tin, as you can see, so I mainly only use it at night. I prefer to use stick lip balms during the day because they seem more sanitary. The lip butter leaves a slight pale pink color on the lips. All in all, it moisturizes, soothes my lips, and smells wonderful – everything that I love in a lip balm.

My favorite nail polish of the month is the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in #400 “Get Juiced,” which is a summery coral-pink. As much as I love nail polish, I’m not exactly an expert at applying it, so I take any help I can get. This is a no-fuss formula that applies smoothly, does not dry in streaks, only needs two coats before it is opaque, and lasts for about a week. The gist behind this is that it is a manicure in a bottle, and I think it totally works. I currently have it on my toes (which you an see in my A Midi Moment post), and it’s a perfect color to wear with all the cute sandals and wedges that summer brings.

I don’t own many perfumes (three to be exact, all of which my sister has gotten for me as Christmas presents), but it’s not because I don’t love them. This is my most favorite of the moment – Marc Jacob’s “Honey.” Both the bottle and the scent are gorgeous. Sephora describes the scent as a mix of green pear, juicy mandarin, orange blossom, peach nectar, apricot, honeysuckle, honey, golden vanilla, and smooth woods. It’s deliciously fruity and light, which is perfect for summer. It has a couple of warmer notes to it, as well, which I think makes it easy to transition the use into fall and winter. This is definitely more of a daytime scent but, as you can see from the fact that this is half gone already, I absolutely love it.

My last beauty favorite is the MAC Paintpot in “Vintage Selection.” I’m much bolder with my lipstick choices, so I tend to keep my eyeshadow simple. I wear a lot of champagne colors (Urban Decay “Sin” and MAC “All That Glitters” are two of my all time faves), and this works perfectly as a base for it. It is a gorgeous, shimmering beige cream eyeshadow that also works alone for days when you want that no-makeup-makeup-look. Using this (or any other cream shadow) underneath your eye makeup will also make it last longer throughout the day without creasing. This was first introduced as part of a collection, but was made permanent about a year ago.

Moving on to non-beauty favorites, this statement necklace is from H&M (typical), and I’ve worn it an abnormal amount of times this month. I think it’s unique, and it goes with basically everything when you want to spice-up an outfit. I bought this back in December, so it’s not available, but H&M is always releasing similar things so keep your eyes peeled at your local store if you like this.

Sigh. I’m not ashamed to admit that that is exactly what I do every time I look at/wear/think about these shoes. I have wanted a pair of Tory Burch Reva flats for years, but finally the “wow this is expensive but I really love them” bullet and purchased my own pair. I did get 25% off though, because I bought them during the Tory Burch Friends and Family Sale, so that eased the pain in my wallet a little bit. Despite the sticker-shock for a broke college girl, I don’t regret the decision at all. These are beautifully made leather flats that look stylish and sophisticated. I love the grey-blue color, as well. I debated between the black and this blue, but decided that if I’m paying this much for these shoes then I should get the more unique ones. I’ve worn them a handful of times, and they are a pain in the butt to break in. I read reviews online about what size to wear, and almost everyone suggested getting a half-size up. I, of course, didn’t listen because I have been a size 8 in every shoe I own. While I think the 8.5 would definitely have made them easier to break in, the 8 fits fine as well. The elastic that is at the back of the shoe is just a little tighter, so it kind of digs into the back of your heal as you walk. I recommend wearing them around the house a bit with some thin socks before you sport these puppies on the town.

My last favorite is a food favorite, and let me tell you, this gum is LIFE CHANGING. When you mix chewing gum and red Sour Patch Kids, only good things can happen. This is a no-brainer favorite for me.

And a big thanks to my baby girl for keeping me company while I try to find natural light to take these pictures with (not easy when it’s pouring down rain). This is Daisy, my three-year-old chocolate lab, who is a favorite of mine every month! How can you say no to those eyes?

Let me know what some of your favorites are this month!
