A Beauty Moment – Review and Swatches of the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors

Hi everyone!

Details: Devotion / Kisses

I typically don’t like matte lip colors, and I definitely don’t really like liquid lipsticks. But with all of the hype surrounding matte liquid lipsticks (thanks to a certain Kardashian I won’t name specifically because I don’t really like them either), I knew I needed to try at least one to see what they were about.

Oh, the power of advertising. After seeing about 15,000 commercials for the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors, I decided I wanted to try those first. So, I popped into Ulta and snagged two colors that looked pretty and wearable on a daily basis: HD Devotion, a mid-tone warm pink, and HD Kisses, a pinky-brown shade that’s great for fall.

The only other matte liquid lipstick I’ve tried is OFRA’s formula, which is much more of a mousse texture than the Revlon ones, which are a tad liquidy.

HD Devotion

To be honest, I wasn’t crazy impressed with these. I probably won’t be reaching for them often, and I won’t be purchasing any more shades. They’re just okay. They have a strong synthetic smell to them, so sensitive noses beware. They apply smoothly, but once they’re on the lips, they just don’t wear comfortably.

The shades tend to bunch toward the inside where your lips touch when you close your mouth, and it’s not the most flattering look. If you’re not going to be opening or closing your mouth for an extended period of time, then these are okay, but that’s not really realistic, is it?

HD Kisses

I will say one thing, the physical appearance of the Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors as the wear throughout the day is quite pretty. They don’t really fade, and that’s impressive. However, they feel like death on the lips. I swear they sucked every last bit of moisture out, and while they don’t look crumbly or patchy, it certainly feels that way as the hours tick on.

These are $8.99 at Ulta and less expensive in grocery stores, but I would save your money for a formula that is better than mediocre if you’re in the market for matte lips. Or, use that cash and check out the Burt’s Bees lipsticks, which aren’t matte but are totally fabulous, for the same price.

Have you tried the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors?

Thanks for reading!

xoxo Rebekah
