An OOTD Moment – We The Free

Hi everyone!

Outfit Details: Top / Skirt / Flats / Purse (Similar)

Lately, I’ve been on the biggest hunt for the perfect denim skirt. I’m not really sure why, because I tend to think back to elementary school when I picture denim skirts. 4th grade me wore typical 2004 bedazzled ones with Limited Too t shirts and colorful jewelry. I even had another skirt with pink fringe off the bottom. I know, you’re completely jealous.

But my latest search for this on-again, off-again staple (the cycle in which most fashion items tend to find themselves) focused on something much more relaxed and much more…California? That might sound odd, but it’s what I picture in my head.

Denim skirts are quite popular today, but not in your traditional style. The ones that are popping up everywhere, from runway to high street, are the 1970s inspired skirts with a trail of buttons down the front. These are adorable, and I love the one I have from H&M, but I wanted something simpler a la Camille Rowe.

I browsed for a solid two weeks through a myriad of stores: American Eagle, Levi’s, ASOS,  etc. without any luck. That is, until I stumbled upon the glorious Free People sale section.

I was having a conversation one night with a friend about Free People and just decided to browse idly (you know how that goes). Well, $40 later I have a new mini skirt and some awesome jeans that I have to feature on here a little later because they’re, well, awesome.

I sized down to a 4 in this skirt because the reviews said it ran huge. I probably could’ve made the 6 work with a belt, but the 4 is definitely a better fit. It’s also not too short, which I appreciate, and the denim is so sturdy. The wash is great too; it’s the perfect mix of vintage yet modern that I was looking for.

I paired the skirt with some killer lace up flats, a suede-feeling peplum top I grabbed from American Eagle a few weeks ago, and this incredible saddlebag that I got from Marshall’s for a whopping $25.

This outfit is so easy, and I can already see it becoming a favorite of mine now that we are heading back into fall. Pop on a leather jacket, and you’re ready for those crisp nights.

PS: Camille Rowe is currently doing a series on wellness on the British Vogue YouTube channel, and you should definitely check it out. It’s incredibly interesting.

What piece have you been searching for lately?

Thanks for reading!

xoxo Rebekah
